Messaging Program
SMS Terms & Consent
Last updated: May 29, 2026
Program name
Handscripted SMS Reminders.
Program description
Handscripted helps you send handwritten cards. When you save a person and an occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc.) in your account, we optionally send SMS reminders so you have time to write, review, and mail a card before the date.
Consent is voluntary
SMS consent is never required to create a Handscripted account, sign in, purchase credits, send a card, or use any other part of the service. SMS reminders are an entirely optional convenience. Account creation, login, browsing, saving people and occasions, composing cards, paying for credits, and sending email or physical mail all work fully without ever turning on SMS. The SMS opt-in toggle and the express-consent checkbox are both off by default and must be actively turned on by the user. Declining or later disabling SMS has no effect on access to the product or on any purchase.
We do not pre-check the SMS box, do not bundle SMS consent into our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy acceptance, and do not condition checkout, account creation, or any feature on agreeing to receive text messages. Phone numbers collected for SMS reminders are used solely to deliver the reminders the user opted in to and are never shared with third parties for their marketing.
How users opt in
Consent is collected inside the authenticated app at /app/settings, on a screen separate from sign-up and separate from checkout. The account already exists before the user ever sees the SMS opt-in. To receive SMS reminders, a signed-in user must take all of the following affirmative steps:
- Open Settings.
- Enter their mobile number in the “Mobile number” field.
- Check the “SMS nudges” box.
- Check the express-consent box reading: “I agree to receive automated SMS reminders from Handscripted at the number above.”
- Click “Save preferences.”
Consent is not a condition of purchase, account creation, or using any feature of Handscripted. The phone field and both checkboxes are empty by default. Users can disable SMS at any time from the same screen, or by replying STOP to any message, with no impact on their account or purchases.
Opt-in form (preview)
Below is the exact opt-in form Handscripted users see in Settings after creating an account. It is reproduced here, on a public page, so it can be reviewed without signing in.
Message frequency
Up to four (4) reminders per saved occasion — 21 days, 10 days, 2 days, and the day of the occasion. Reminders are sent only between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM in the recipient’s local time zone.
Sample messages
This is Handscripted — reply STOP anytime to opt out. Heads up: Sarah’s birthday is in 10 days. Want to start a card? https://handscripted.app/app

The first SMS sent to a new number always includes the identification and opt-out line shown above.
